watercolor on paper, 40 x 55 cm, 2020 by Anastasia Saburova
I called this work “Finnish strawberry”. And it’s not only about how amazing it is that a northern country is growing berries (and bunch of greens) so local people could have a sunny country’s assortment in supermarkets.
It’s also about how a cold country has been so warm and colourful for me since I moved in. And I’m infinitely grateful for this.
Morning in the backyard
oil on canvas on board, 40 x 50 cm, 2019 by Anastasia Saburova
To paint this piece I got my inspiration from a photo taken by another multipotentialite person who I’m following and who is a curator and a founder of an art support foundation. He had a sort of a challenge to photograph daily life and usual things around in order just to notice them. He took many amazing shots. And I tried to paint a moment of his vision – it was such an interesting journey.

Using complementary colours, texture and different finishes, the contemplative angelic figure in Winged Wilderness and her elongated wings forms a graphic shape on the canvas. The use of stamped grids and texture gives the painting a contemporary and grungy feel. The painting is created on board and float framed in painted wood. Paul continues to explore the angelic fuigures in his work.

Ironing and coriander
Mixed media print on recycled cans, plastic packaging, 80 x 30 cm, 2020 by Lucy Oates
Ironing and coriander is a mixed media print on recycled cans and plastic packaging. I use my surrounding environment to inform my work, not just for it’s aesthetics, but the actual physical objects left behind. I often utilise waste materials, fusing them with traditional art techniques such as printmaking and embroidery. This has been an on going investigation in my practice and is how I came to develop my own hybrid printing and joining method involving aluminium cans and plastic packaging. The very action of using waste material within art is a comment on the current state of the environment, although I do not project this to be the dominating message. Instead I aim to celebrate the waste materials characteristic’s, rescuing them from the bin “dressing them up” to have new functions and appearances. This desire to utilise waste material, stems from growing up in a busy household of refurbishment. Family members would regularly return with items from the skip. This action of finding materials became ingrained in me at a young age, and could explain why I often ‘renovate’ waste within artwork.
